Ronodin the Dark Unicorn.
Warning most if not all post made about Ronodin will have spoilers from the DragonWatch books, you have been warned. All trespassers will be turned to stone with the knowledge of spoilers.
Ronodin is first mentioned in Fablehaven book five Keys to the Demon Prison on page 383, in a conversation between Kendra and Bracken, where Bracken says, “The next horn I away was my third horn. This was highly unusual. I’m not sure any other unicorns have given theirs away, save perhaps Ronodin the dark unicorn who willfully corrupted his horns.”
He was again mentioned, in DragonWatch book one when it is told that Ronodin has resurfaced after an implied long absence. Here is where we find out the Ronodin is Bracken’s cousin.
In this conversation,

“And Bracken?” Kendra asked.
“I’m sorry, Kendra,” Bracken said. “There is a situation where I’m needed.”
“An old enemy,” Agad said. “Ronodin.”
“That sounds familiar,” Kendra said.
“A dark unicorn who willfully corrupted his horns,” Bracken said. “My cousin.”
Though a Ronodin had been mentioned twice now, it wasn’t until DragonWatch book two, Wrath of the Dragon King page 85, that we meet him in this excerpt from Wrath of the Dragon King.
Bag Zou blinked. Winked? “I could squish her on a whim.”
“Not tonight,” a new voice said. “You would die before your fist could fall.”
Kendra turned and found a handsome young man behind her, maybe a couple of years older than her. He had thick black hair, intense dark eyes, and a strong jawline. His dressy black robe of Asian design fir snugly and had subtle touches of embroidery at the neck, near the wrists, and around the fancy buttons. Was he one of the Fair Folk? He didn’t look quite as perfect as them-his nose was a bit crooked, as if it had been broken once or twice, and he had a faint scar through one eyebrow. The little flaws almost made him even more attractive.
“Who’s going to stop me?” Bag Zou asked. “You?”
“Dragons,” he replied simply. “Kendra under the care of dragons tonight. And she runs the sanctuary. You ought to show her more respect. It was generous of her to introduce herself.”
After that Ronodin goes on to antagonize the cyclops Bag Zou further. It’s not until a little after as he leads Kendra back to her seat do we find out who he is.

“Then who are you?”
The young man stopped. “I insisted on introductions and failed to provide my own.” He bowed. “I am Ronodin, known to some as the dark unicorn.”
So we’ve met him, and he’s been physically in three of the current DragonWatch books. This is the introduction to my series of a sort of character study on Ronodin, the next part will have asking if he is a morally grey character. It should be up in a few days and I will keep you posted on my Instagram. Feel free to comment any topics about Ronodin you’d like to see me go over.
Have a wonderful day, and don’t forget to drink your milk. ;)
