Nothing Left to Lose Pt.1

 -Nothing Left to Lose-

"No!" Kendra screamed, tears running down her face, as Ronodin plunged his sword through Bracken's chest. She tried to run to him, but a goblin was holding her back, and she couldn't get free. Bracken fell to the ground, his head turned towards her. He looked at Kendra with his blue eyes, then barely even a whisper he said "I love you," his eyes closed, and he went limp, he was dead. Kendra fell to her knees, she felt broken inside. Bracken couldn't be dead, she had just gotten him back. They were supposed to win today, this was supposed to be the last battle of the war. "Aw, was that the first time he had said that to you?" Ronodin said. Standing over Bracken's dead body, "Maybe he shouldn't have waited so long," he nudged Bracken as if checking that he was dead, he was. "And now he's dead." Ronodin walked over to Kendra with the evilest smile she had ever seen. Kneeling in front of Kendra, he tilted her face up so that she was looking at him, "I hate you," Kendra spat, "Mmm, I know," Ronodin said, with a smirk, "Let her go to him, there's nothing she can do." The goblin let Kendra go, and she ran to Bracken's side. "Bracken?" Kendra whispered, taking his head in her hands, he didn't reply. Kendra reached to take his hand, hoping he would wrap his fingers around hers like he always did, but every bit of life that was once in him was gone. "No, no no no, you can't leave me, not after everything we've been through." Kendra cried her heart, out still holding Bracken's hand. She lifted her head so that she could look at him, tears from her eyes fell onto his face. Ronodin came in front of her to pick up his sword, Bracken's blood still on it. "Do you know many years I've been wanting to do that?" Ronodin asked, wiping his sword clean, "The only thing that might have made that better is killing you in front of him before he died, oh well, can't do that now." he shrugged and turned to face Kendra. She looked up at him all emotion leaving her body until there was only one left, rage. Kendra had never been so full of hate before looking up at Ronodin. She let it fuel her, if she didn't, she might have crumbled apart right there, but she couldn't yet, she had to finish this. Otherwise, Bracken died for nothing. Kendra spotted a figure coming up from behind Ronodin, it was Seth. Not wanting to give him away, she focused on Ronodin. "I've always said you were a monster but I never imagined you'd do this." Kendra said, through her tears, "It's always what I've planned to do, I just needed to wait for the right moment." Seth was almost close enough to stab Ronodin when he turned around, "Really Seth? I thought I taught you better than that." Ronodin said, grabbing Seth, making him drop Vasilis. Ronodin held Seth's head in a way that looked like he was going to break his neck. "Stop! Don't hurt him!" Kendra said, standing up picking up Bracken's sword. "Oh? You don't want me to hurt him?" Ronodin moved so fast there was nothing Kendra could do before he snapped Seth's neck and tossed him to the ground, "Too bad."

"Seth! No!" Kendra felt something inside of her snap, something cold and dark ran through her as she ran towards Ronodin using Bracken's sword to slash him across the chest. Ronodin cried out in pain but blocked her next blow, then slashed her arm with his sword. Ronodin gasped and stepped away from her. Kendra noticed it was getting brighter, then realized the light was coming from her. Kendra looked down at her hands to see that they were glowing and then saw the blooding running out of her wound was gold. "What's going on?" Kendra said. "I have no idea, this has never happened before," Ronodin said. Kendra decided that if she was visibly glowing it meant that she was more powerful, powerful enough to kill Ronodin probably. Kendra lunged towards Ronodin and drove Bracken's sword through him, the look of surprise on his face gave Kendra so much satisfaction, too much this wasn't like her, but she didn't care. He had killed Bracken and Seth, her little brother. Kendra was supposed to keep him safe but Ronodin had killed him, the only thing she could do now it avenge him, avenge both of them. "Are you sure you want to do this Kendra? Think of what people will think of you. You might lose your reputation of little miss perfect." Ronodin said, through gritted teeth, "See that's where you're wrong, because, of you, I have nothing left to lose." Surprise turned into pain as Kendra twisted the sword then pulled it out letting Ronodin fall to the ground. Kendra looked down at her hands, still glowing, but they were starting to tone down a little. Besides the glowing, there was blood all over her. She could see some silver blood from Bracken on her hands but it was mostly Ronodin's blood. A strange feeling ran through her, happiness? No, it couldn't be how could Kendra feel happy? She had just killed someone, but then again that person had been Ronodin. The man who had just killed Bracken and Seth right in front of her. Kendra looked around at the dead bodies around her, two of them belonged to the two people in Kendra's life that she loved the most, she had never felt more lost. Sure she had other loved ones but they couldn't help, and if history taught her anything everybody she loved died. They would be better off without her. Kendra had a plan forming in her head, she turned to Ronodin's corpse and took the crown off of his head, he couldn't be the fairy king if he was dead. This whole war had happened because of the dragons, specifically, the dragon king, the five monarchs have never brought anything good to this world, maybe it should go back to only two, like how it used to be before the Ethergem had been shattered. If Kendra could hide the fairy crown until she could find the old fairy queen she could get rid of the dragon king, the new giant king, and the demon king. Kendra might be able to fix some things. But she would have to disappear, she would have to leave a note or something so that the family she still had would know that she wasn't dead. Kendra went over to Seth's body and kneeled next to him. She couldn't believe he was dead, that they were both dead. Kendra leaned over and hugged her brother one last time, then took Vasilis from his hand. Next Kendra went over to Bracken's body and placed his first horn next to him, not being able to control her tears anymore, she began to sob again. After what felt like years of crying, Kendra decided she needed to get out of there before her friends came looking for her. Before getting up to leave, she leaned over and kissed Bracken's forehead and then put his sword on his chest. Somehow Kendra found the strength to stand and pick up Vasilis, once it lit on fire she used it to write a message in the grass. Knowing that if Raxtus flew in the air he would be able to read it. Kendra didn't look back as she walked away not wanting to see Seth and Bracken's dead bodies again. Pushing everything else out of her mind Kendra focused on one thing, getting justice for everybody she had lost.

Brandon Mull's Interview with Shadow Mountain

Today Bradon Mull was interviewed by Callie Hansen on the Shadow Moutain YouTube channel. I was able to take the time to watch it live and thought I would share some of the questions and answers with everyone. I will not go over everything said, just mostly just the things that affect Fablehaven and DragonWatch. If you want to watch the full interview, you can find it on YouTube! The first question I want to go over is: How do you come up with so many names for people, creatures, and magical items?  Brandon’s answer, “I do put thought into names because, to me, the perfect fantasy name is something king of new, and different, but also reasonably easy to pronounce.  And so finding those kinds of names, at least for me, takes time, takes some thought, sometimes I make up the names.  For example, the perfect fantasy name to me is Gandal, right? Easy to say, easy to spell and you don’t have a friend at school named Gandalf usually.  And so that’s the kind of name I...

-Endings- “Stop!” Bracken yelled, but he was too late. Kendra pulled the blade from Ronodin’s chest. Kendra’s face showed no remorse as Ronodin’s body hit the ground.  Bracken ran to Ronodin’s side, stopping him from falling down the hill.  “I just did you a huge favor,” Kendra said, wiping off her sword. “You are nothing like the girl I knew. You might be worse than he ever was.” Bracken spat at this person he did not know. “That’s what I was going for, you saw what he did to the world, now you get to see what I’ll do with it. Just to keep you on the edge of your seat, it’s a lot worse.” A big black hole like portal popped up behind Kendra, she took a step back into it and disappeared. Bracken’s attention turned to Ronodin, but he was dead. “I’m sorry,” Warren said, the morning after Ronodin was killed. “It is not your fault, that girl is the one who killed him,” Bracken replied looking out the window. They had buried Ronodin in the backyard, Bracken would have taken h...

Nothing Left to Lose Pt. 20

-Funeral- Bracken, Seth, and Warren walked into the church at twelve o’clock the next day. If this all went well, they would have Kendra back by the end of the day.  “Hello handsome, and the other two, but damn Bracken, you do look good in a suit.” She said, looking him up and down. They had all decided to go with formal wear and apparently so had she. She was wearing a long black dress that barely had a back, and her lips were the color of blood. Behind her was a picture of Kendra that was covered in black see through fabric. “Shouldn’t this be a funeral for the newest person you killed?” Bracken asked. “Really?” Kendra said with a sigh, then she snapped her fingers and a picture of Ronodin popped up, “Better?”  Bracken didn’t respond.  “Why do you even care that I killed him? Don’t you remember what he did to you? Oh, did you two make up? Have a family dinner heart to heart?” “Just because we had our differences doesn’t mean I wanted him dead, things have changed...
