Nothing Left to Lose Pt. 21

-New beginnings- The trip back to Fablehaven was a long one, mostly because Seth had to go see the singing sisters about a deal he made but couldn't remember. Which sounded like a very bad thing but apparently, Seth had been able to work out something new with them and he "would tell her about it later". But Kendra was now back at Fablehaven and her family was throwing a party. It was fun, but Kendra needed a break from all the people. So she went on a walk to the hidden pond.  When she got there, it was almost surreal, it had been so long since she had been there. "You're not running away again are you?" A voice said from behind Kendra, it was Bracken.  "No, I just wanted to go on a walk, that's all." "Yeah, I get it," He said, stepping up onto the gazebo Kendra was in, "I brought this, I thought you might want to get rid of it," Bracken held up the unicorn necklace. "Oh, I definitely want to get rid of it, give it h...

Nothing Left to Lose Pt. 20

-Funeral- Bracken, Seth, and Warren walked into the church at twelve o’clock the next day. If this all went well, they would have Kendra back by the end of the day.  “Hello handsome, and the other two, but damn Bracken, you do look good in a suit.” She said, looking him up and down. They had all decided to go with formal wear and apparently so had she. She was wearing a long black dress that barely had a back, and her lips were the color of blood. Behind her was a picture of Kendra that was covered in black see through fabric. “Shouldn’t this be a funeral for the newest person you killed?” Bracken asked. “Really?” Kendra said with a sigh, then she snapped her fingers and a picture of Ronodin popped up, “Better?”  Bracken didn’t respond.  “Why do you even care that I killed him? Don’t you remember what he did to you? Oh, did you two make up? Have a family dinner heart to heart?” “Just because we had our differences doesn’t mean I wanted him dead, things have changed...

-Invitation- “She wants you to do what?” Warren asked, or more like yelled loud enough to make everyone wince. Bracken had just gotten back from the “date” and had finished telling them about what had happened, though it seemed to Seth like he had left a few bits out. “I told her I wasn’t going to do it. She’s feeling guilty about the last three years, and probably almost killing me.” Bracken said, but Seth still couldn’t believe that his sister would think they would kill her. Even if her body was taken over by an evil version of herself.  “Yeah, that is not something we’re doing. Maybe Tanu will find something, has anybody heard from him?” Seth asked. “Not yet, but he should be calling soon.”  After a few more minutes of thinking of ways to get the necklace when a knock came from the door, “Are we expecting anybody?” Vanessa asked. “Not that I know of,” Seth said, getting up and heading for the door. He opened it to find an envelope addressed to My dearest family and ...

-Cafe date- Bracken walked up to the cafe, it wasn’t that far from the house, so he had decided to walk. He opened the door and walked in, there was nobody inside, well, nobody besides her. She was dressed in a short red silk spaghetti strap dress that laced up in the back. But no necklace, this wasn’t good.  “You came, what do you think of the outfit?” She asked spinning in a circle, her black high heels clicking on the floor.  “You look nice,” Bracken told her, which wasn’t a lie but that didn’t change the situation.  “Thank you, you look handsome as always,” She said, sitting down at a small round table in the center of the room, “Come sit, do you want anything?” “No, thanks,” Bracken said, sitting down across from her. “Why did you request to see me? I thought I was worse than Ronodin,” “I wanted to talk to you,” “No, I don’t think so. I think you miss your girlfriend, don’t you?” “Of course I do,” Bracken said ignoring the part about Kendra being his girlfrien...

-Endings- “Stop!” Bracken yelled, but he was too late. Kendra pulled the blade from Ronodin’s chest. Kendra’s face showed no remorse as Ronodin’s body hit the ground.  Bracken ran to Ronodin’s side, stopping him from falling down the hill.  “I just did you a huge favor,” Kendra said, wiping off her sword. “You are nothing like the girl I knew. You might be worse than he ever was.” Bracken spat at this person he did not know. “That’s what I was going for, you saw what he did to the world, now you get to see what I’ll do with it. Just to keep you on the edge of your seat, it’s a lot worse.” A big black hole like portal popped up behind Kendra, she took a step back into it and disappeared. Bracken’s attention turned to Ronodin, but he was dead. “I’m sorry,” Warren said, the morning after Ronodin was killed. “It is not your fault, that girl is the one who killed him,” Bracken replied looking out the window. They had buried Ronodin in the backyard, Bracken would have taken h...

Nothing Left to Lose Pt. 16

-A Visit- “Wake up,” Someone said in a sing-song voice. It sounded like Kendra, was he dreaming? Better yet, maybe the past three years had been a dream. He would even settle for the past few days being a dream, for Kendra to still be Kendra and everybody be back at Fablehaven. But he knew better than that. Bracken opened his eyes to find, Kendra laying next to him, with her head on the pillow looking over at him. “Kendra?” Bracken asked, still bleary-eyed.  “Aw, your morning voice is so cute. Miss me?” And that’s when Bracken realized this wasn’t a dream because that voice didn’t belong to the Kendra he knew.  “What are you doing here?” Bracken asked, quickly getting out of bed. “What? Weren’t you looking for me?” She asked, also standing up but on the opposite side of the bed.  “How did you know?” Bracken asked there was a chance Kendra would know they were looking for her but not this soon.   “Oh, honey. I have people who would die for me, you think I ...

Nothing Left to Lose Pt. 15

-Searching- “We have no idea where she is. Nobody had seen her in days.”  Warren said after getting off the phone with a contact. The group had made their way back to the states and were staying at a house owned by the nights of the dawn. Ronodin was still with them but he had gone upstairs hours ago.  “We’ve been at this all day, maybe, we should get some sleep. Start again in the morning.” Vanessa said, taking Warren’s hand when he sat back down at the table. Seth knew she should go back to bed, but maybe if he stayed up a little while longer…. “That means both of you too, get some sleep,” Vanessa said, giving Seth and Bracken the evil eye.  “Guys, Vanessa’s probably right. And if we don’t go to bed she will probably knock us out with her sleeping darts.” Warren said, standing up.  Warren was probably right with the second statement, so Seth decided to go to bed also. Bracken seemed to make the same conclusion.  “Goodnight, guys,” Seth said as they part...
